Art

I’m Mrs Day and I particularly love the way that art at St Mary’s encourages our pupils to express themselves as creative and imaginative individuals.
As art and design subject leader, I oversee an exciting curriculum with opportunities to learn drawing, painting and mixed media, sculpture and craft and design. Inspired by traditions across the centuries and cultures throughout the world, our pupils’ brilliant creations range from ancient Egyptian scrolls to interactive installations.
They also learn about artists from different heritages and times, such as Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and the architect Zada Hadid. This knowledge provides a great starting point for devising and creating their own designs.
Following the Kapow Primary scheme of work, our curriculum is aspirational in its range and inclusive; we give extra support to children who need it as they get to grips with concepts and materials. Overall, art and design at St Mary’s inspires self-expression, self-confidence and emotional intelligence.
